“We want instant lunch, instant cure, instant miracles, instant salary, instant success – instant everything. This instant civilization has made us grow a tad too impatient in virtually everything about life.”

– Boniface Sagini

Hi,

You get a lot of emails. And I appreciate you reading this.

Will keep it short…

  • A while ago everyone advised us to write longer, 1000+ words, blog posts.
  • But shorter content is gaining critical mass – think TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Snapchat Stories, Google Web Stories.
  • How do we respond to this instant civilization?

Let’s produce “snack-able” content.

Grab attention and convert…

Curated, to-the-point content that makes readers more intelligent – wins.

So we must provide value quicker.

Why is snack-able content important?

  • – Youth is migrating to shorter content
  • – Creating shorter content takes less time
  • – The increased viral coefficient in business
  • – Reaching out to influencers is easier
  • – Social video generates 1200% more shares than text and images
  • 68% of people will happily watch a business video if it’s under a minute (Vidyard – 2019)

Ideas to create shorter yet impactful content

  1. Teasers: Videos / tweets / updates about you or your products
  2. FAQ: Answer a couple of frequently raised questions through a short video
  3. Ride the trend: Publish your opinions about a trending topic
  4. Tips / hacks: Engage the DIY and curious folks with shortcuts to get something done
  5. Web stories: Use Google’s Web Stories WordPress plugin
  6. Summaries: Shorten your longer blog posts
  7. Turn a blog into a video: Use a text-to-speech engine or tools like Lumen5
  8. Customer reviews: A case study in under a minute will work well
  9. Behind-the-scenes: Trust me, behind the scenes, personal sharing, work culture, bloopers and memes go viral.

Start experimenting instead of thinking. Do it before your competitors ace the game.

The uncomfortable truth – instant gratification ruins our lives

I’m deeply interested in human behavior and parenting. And this interview Simon Sinek did is a must-watch for everyone.

Some highlights:

  • The generation that we call the Millennials, too many of them grew up subject to failed parenting strategies. They were told that they were special… all the time, they were told that they can have anything they want in life, just because they want it.
  • And then – when in the real world – they find out they’re not special. Their moms can’t get them a promotion; that you get nothing for coming in last and, you can’t just have it because you want it. And in an instant, their entire self-image is shattered.
  • You have an entire generation that’s growing up with lower self-esteem than previous generations.
  • They’re standing at the foot of a mountain, and they have this abstract concept called impact that they want to have in the world, which is the summit. What they don’t see is the mountain. I don’t care if you go up the mountain quickly or slowly. But there’s still a mountain.
